Nouvelle Importante concernant les licences pour le FWT 2011

Hello all,

Thank you for your interest in and support of the 2011 Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour. I want to make you aware of a very important change in the requirements for participation in FKP international karting events, beginning with the February FWT events at Palm Beach.

Later today you will see an announcement concerning license requirements for the Florida Winter Tour and the Rotax Pan American Challenges, as well as several other international series in The Americas. As the exclusive owner and promoter of the Florida Winter Tour and the administrator and promoter of the Rotax Pan American Challenge I want to answer some of the questions you may have about why these licensing requirements are being initiated.

Many of you know the Florida Winter Tour is one of the longest running, largest and most geographically diverse kart racing programs in the world. Although I don’t yet have official statistics for 2011 I am confident we will have drivers from more than 30 countries and all 6 karting continents participating at the 2011 FWT. I anticipate similar statistics when we begin the 2011 Pan American Challenge in April.

In the past it was rare for drivers who participated in the FWT and other similar series to also participate in other international series. This is no longer the case. Many of the FWT and similar series participants are now regularly traveling the world to compete at the highest levels of the sport. Because of this it is necessary that the series these drivers race in meet the FIA/CIK requirements for international competitions.

The FIA/CIK is the recognized authority for licensing karting drivers for international competition. The representative of the FIA/CIK in each affiliated country is known as the ASN. In Canada it is ASN Canada. In the United States it is ACCUS (Automobile Competition Committee of the United States). ACCUS has assigned WKA as its FIA/CIK representative in the United States.

Many of you already hold karting licenses from your country. If you have a current 2011 ASN license from your country then you have everything you need to participate without restriction. If not, you will be required to make that application and purchase a license to continue your participation. Regardless of your home country, if you do not have the ability to acquire an ASN license prior to the competitions, WKA will be on site and can issue you a $20 per-event WKA membership, at the event, that will allow you to compete. WKA, ASN Canada and Formula Kart Productions will have staff available at the February rounds of the FWT to assist you with any membership/licensing issues. Formula Kart Productions will then be available to provide assistance for any future FKP events.

The FIA/CIK is the recognized authority for monitoring international karting events. FIA/CIK regulations restrict the ability of FIA/CIK licensed drivers to participate in events that are not listed on the FIA/CIK competition calendars. This is done so that the FIA/CIK can monitor the actions of the driver once they are licensed. In this way the FIA/CIK assures that drivers act responsibly during competition. Drivers who are reckless or abusive can have their license revoked. This protects the organizers and the competitors from abuses by irresponsible drivers.

Although I regret the timing of these new calendar listing and driver licensing requirements, I welcome the opportunity to join with our global partners at the FIA/CIK to ensure that competitors act responsibly during competitions. This licensing requirement will add another level of safety to Formula Kart Productions events. I am confident you will agree that the relatively small inconvenience and expense created by these new licensing requirements is far outweighed by the additional safety they will provide to our competitors.

As always I am available for your questions or comments at info@formulakart.com . Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to seeing you all again very soon.

Sincerely,

Bill Wright
